“We write to expose the unexposed. The writer’s job is to turn the unspeakable into words – not just into any words, but if we can, into rhythm and blues.” ~ Anne Lamott

“DELMARK ALL STARS BAND” BILLY FLYNN, ROOSEVELT PURIFOY, BOB STROGER, WILLIE HAYES
To celebrate the upcoming ROCKWELL BLUES & JAZZ STREET STROLL on Sept. 4, 2021, we feature the “Delmark All Stars Band” BILLY FLYNN on guitar, ROOSEVELT PURIFOY on keyboards, BOB STROGER on bass and WILLIE “THE TOUCH” HAYES on drums who headline the event and will support special guest stars Jimmy Johnson, Jimmy Burns, Linsey Alexander, Willie Buck & Sharon Lewis. Each are masterful sidemen and solo artists in their own right. One couldn’t choose a better lineup to kick off the finale and provide backup for the talents of the scheduled front men and women.
These four gentlemen are the cream of the crop in Chicago Blues musical circles. Each have appeared on hundreds of recording sessions sparately and have played live gigs too numerous to count. I’ve had the privilege of seeing and hearing each of them often in a myriad of settings and combos, and they bring it every time. It’s the Chicago Way, it’s what Chicago blues is known for; the pool of musicians that form the backbone that support the blues legacy with respect, musicianship, personality and brilliant talent. If I didn’t already live here, I’d want to because of guys like these that… Where else can one find this depth of blues acumen and soul on any given night? I’d like to be a tourist and get my mind blown…

His passion for blues music began with a 6th grade dance party discovery of Bo Diddley which led to Little Walter, muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and so on. It continues to this day.
