Dave Specter Interviews Billy Flynn
Billy Flynn, guitarist, harpist and mandolin player, steeped in decades of blues playing and writing, talks with Dave Specter about how his Grammy-winning career developed. One scene is outside of a club at age 14, playing his guitar along to the song on the jukebox, “When I Sing the Blues” by B.B. King, for a show where Jimmy Dawkins was performing in his hometown of Green Bay, WI. Dawkin’s drummer came out and heard him and talked to the club owner to have him come in and join the jam. Seeing the show live “changed his whole thing.”
Learn about artists to check out like Little Smokey, and Hound Dog Taylor, Earl Hooker, Robert Nighthawk and Tampa Red, as well as stories about projects ranging from playing Chuck Berry styles with Kim Wilson, and Flynn’s most recent album “Lonesome Highway.” Following decades of deep blues contributions, Flynn says he’s fortunate he followed his sprit… “whatever you’re into search it out, always hard to find but worth finding.”
